With our organization date in 1918, the Kiwanis Club of Wilmington is closing in
on a century of community service. In 1918 we provided coal for the less
fortunate in order to heat their homes. Over the years we have many projects
for which we are justifiably proud. We have completed more than 50 years of
honoring our armed services and veterans who have found themselves in harm's
way in service to our country. This May we will be fortunate to continue
that tradition in a meeting that's open to the public.
For over 50 years we have set aside time and resources to honor our Civil
Servants (Police, Fire and Emergency Medical Services) for their outstanding
contribution to the welfare of our community, honoring the civil servants of each branch with quarterly and
annual recognition.
One of our projects helped raise the average birthweight in the state of
Delaware as we were instrumental in founding a prenatal care program in
the spirit of
Young Children Priority One.
Another project involved the building of
The Kiwanis Branch of Girls, Inc. We have been an active participant in Meals On Wheels,
and sponsored a major fund raiser that insured this vital project could continue.
We read to children at the Salvation Army Day Care on a scheduled regular basis.
We sponsor seven Service Leadership clubs. We think of ourselves as
a growing force in community service.
